Ruminants as a part of the livestock structure, occupy an important role on the present and future of the global food system [1], and on the maintenance of environmental equilibrium in wild habitats [2]. The challenge of feeding a growing population (more than 9 billion people by 2050), together with changes in consumption patterns will increase the demand for livestock products [1,3-5]. Therefore, some authors call these prospective “the livestock revolution” [6-8] thereby strengthening the role of ruminants [9] as a forceful part of the world food economy.
